The Congrégation Notre-Dame, founded in 1598 by Alix Le Clerc and Abbé Pierre Fourier, had a convent in Troyes, in Champagne (France). These cloistered religious formed an extern congregation to teach children in poor areas. Marguerite joined this group of pious young women in 1640 and became prefect some years later. Being responsible for more than 400 members of this congregation prepared Marguerite for the challenges ahead.
